Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing to teach non-English and limited-English speaking individuals English language skills on a voluntary basis without remuneration. Participants learn listening, speaking, reading and writing skills with an emphasis on developing the level of communication competence that is essential for adults who are living in a setting in which English is the primary language used.
Literacy Volunteer Opportunities
Libraries and other organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills and experience who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to provide reading and writing instruction for individuals of all ages who are unable to read or write at a functional level. Some literacy programs also teach basic math skills.
Reading Encouragement Volunteer Opportunities
Organizations that are actively seeking individuals with the requisite skills who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to read to young children during a library or after school program story hour, staff book giveaway programs or become involved in other activities that stimulate an interest in books and reading.
