Cued Speech Instruction

Taxonomy Code: LR-8000.0500-150

Programs that teach individuals with hearing impairments to communicate by utilizing a system that is designed to clarify lip reading by use of simple hand movements (cues) that are used simultaneously with speaking to help a person distinguish sounds that look the same on the lips, e.g., "p" and "b". The approach significantly enhances lip reading ability and has been used with people who may not be able to learn entirely through amplified hearing.
